What It Actually Costs to Fly Private to the Alps This Winter

15 September 2026

Courchevel's own altiport can't take a private jet — the runway's too short and the approach too steep for anything but the specialist turboprops that fly it commercially. So every "private jet to Courchevel" search is really a question about Chambéry, Sion, Bern or Samedan, and what happens on the road or by helicopter after you land. Nobody tells you that part until you're already trying to book.

Where you're actually flying into. Courchevel, Méribel, Val d'Isère → Chambéry, roughly an hour's transfer by road or helicopter. Verbier, Zermatt → Sion, a dedicated private-aviation airport built for exactly this traffic. Gstaad → Bern. St Moritz → Samedan, at 1,707 metres one of Europe's higher airports, with approach quirks that rule out some heavier aircraft.

What it costs, by aircraft. London to the Alps runs close to London–Geneva pricing: turboprop €5,000–€9,000 one way (fine for two or three people, a long weekend); light jet €8,000–€14,000, roughly an hour in the air, the default for four to six with ski bags; midsize €12,000–€20,000 for a full family or split group. Hourly across the UK market this winter: turboprops £1,600–£2,800, light jets £2,800–£4,500, midsize/super-midsize £4,500–£7,000, heavy jets from £7,000.

The surcharge you can see coming. Christmas and New Year, February half-term, and any week the Alps are simply full push pricing up 20–40%. Booking two to three months out protects the price — and for the popular dates, it's the difference between flying and not. Empty legs on this corridor run roughly €3,000–€7,000 one way for flyers who can move on the operator's schedule.

The part that's easy to get wrong. Picking the aircraft is the easy half. Picking the airport — and confirming your jet can actually land there, in winter weather, at that runway length and altitude — is the half that gets people rebooking a week before departure. That's the work done before you ever see a quote.
